Trinidad and Tobago President will be chief guest of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas :

President of Trinidad and Tobago Christine Carla Kangaloo will be the chief guest of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) which will kick off from January 8 in the state capital.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi who made a detailed review of the preparations for the three-day flagship event on Tuesday confirmed that Kangaloo will be the chief guest, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Pravasi Bharatiya Express.

18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas :

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated once in every two years to strengthen the engagement of the overseas Indian community with the Government of India and reconnect them with their cultural roots. The 18th PBD Convention is being held from 8th-10th January, 2025 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The theme of the 18th PBD Convention 2025 is “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat”.

Major facts on Pravasi Bharatiya Divas :

9 January commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India in 1915. To mark this day, the tradition of celebrating Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) started in 2003. 1st PBD Convention was organised on 9 January 2003 to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community to the development of India.

Since 2015, under a revised format, PBD Convention has been organised once every 2 years. 17 Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Conventions have been organised till date. 17th PBD was held from 8 – 10 January 2023 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The theme of the 17th PBD Convention was “Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal”.
The 18th PBD Convention will be held from 8 – 10 January 2025 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The theme of the 18th PBD Convention is “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat”.

Regional Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (RPBD) :

Ministry of External affairs of india has been organizing Regional Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Conferences (RPBD) to reach out to a vast majority of our diaspora, who for various reasons, are unable to attend the main biennial event in India and benefit from its deliberations. This is in response to a strong and persistent demand for holding such events regionally. These have elicited enthusiastic support from the Indian diaspora and the local Governments and have been highly successful. So far, ten RPBDs have been held as per details.
