Indian delegation led by Lok sabha speaker Om Birla participated in the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) recently. It was organised in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Through these high-level meetings during the IPU Assembly in Tashkent, Birla reaffirmed India’s continued focus on building stronger parliamentary partnerships with countries in Central Asia and the Middle East, based on shared democratic values and mutual interests.
Om Birla met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent and said India and Uzbekistan must take forward their historic partnership into emerging areas such as digital technology, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and nuclear energy. Describing the Indo-Uzbek relationship as rooted in centuries of shared heritage, Birla noted that this longstanding cooperation needed to be deepened in new sectors, alongside traditional ones.
