CSAT 2025: How to Score Well in the Qualifying Paper

The Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) is the second paper of the UPSC Preliminary Examination and is a qualifying paper. • Read newspapers, editorials, and high-quality articles to improve reading speed and comprehension.

• Strengthen topics like syllogisms, seating arrangement, blood relations, coding-decoding, logical puzzles, and statement-assumption questions.

• Solve CSAT previous year papers to understand the level of difficulty and frequently asked question types.
• Try Venn Diagram-based problems as they frequently appear in exams.

• Revise high school mathematics (up to Class 10 level) from NCERT books.
• Practice shortcuts and tricks to solve numerical questions faster.
• Attempt data interpretation sets from previous CSAT papers, as these questions can be calculation-intensive.

• Go through at least the last 5-7 years of CSAT question papers to identify important topics.
• Attempt full-length timed mock tests to assess your performance.

• If you struggle with comprehension, read more editorials and practice mock comprehension passages.
• If quantitative aptitude is challenging, revise basic mathematical concepts and formulas.
• Work on logical reasoning puzzles and patterns regularly to improve speed and accuracy.

• Don’t get stuck on one question for too long. If a question seems too difficult, skip and move on to the next.
• Divide your 2-hour duration efficiently:

• 45 minutes: Comprehension
• 40 minutes: Logical Reasoning
• 35 minutes: Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation

• Attempt at least 10-15 full-length CSAT mock tests before the exam.
• Review solutions after each test to understand mistakes and improve accuracy.
